Grahamstown is a lovely city of churches and schools founded by the 1820 Settlers who came from England to colonize the area. It is easily accessible by road, bus, automobile, air and train. Mariya uMama weThemba Monastery is situated 7.5 kms south of the city on the Highlands Road, just off the N2.

AUTOMOBILE:
From the South:
Take the N2 North from Port Elizabeth, following the signs for Grahamstown. Just before the city turn left onto Rautenbach Road. The notice indicates Highlands. Turn left. Turn left immediately onto Highlands Road. Do not cross the railway line. Continue along the Highlands Road. The tar will end. Continue on the gravel. You will see the monastery on the left just opposite Cold Springs Farm.
From the North: Drive South from Grahamstown on the N2. Continue past the exit for the Settlers Monument. At the next exit, turn right onto Rautenbach Road. Turn left immediately onto Highlands Road. Do not cross the railway line. Continue along the Highlands Road. The tar will end. Continue on the gravel. You will see the monastery on the left just opposite Cold Springs Farm.

By bus: Both Greyhound and Translux call at Grahamstown. Please consult the companies for schedules and fares. Please be certain to let the Guesthouse know the time of your arrival.

By rail: The train from Johannesburg and the North stops in Alicedale. There is a connecting train just across the platform to Grahamstown.

By air: There are several flights a day into Port Elizabeth. The airport hosts most major rental cars. Taxis can be arranged.
