MONKS AT PRAYER

This gathering together five times a day to pray in common is what marks the life of a monastic community. Liturgical prayer is the centre of all monastic life and, because "liturgy" has its roots in "work", the monastic liturgy is the "Work of God" - the Opus Dei. It springs from the life and work of the community and centers and grounds all the rest of our life together. ...

"Sipho's Gift"

A highlight of the final school term for 2013 was the nativity play, "Sipho’s Gift", on Friday the 29th of November. Mr Kitsili wrote the play based on a Gcina Mhlope story. Every child had a part to play and Oatlands Primary School loaned all the costumes to our school. Mr Kitsili directed the play, Ms Myeki and Mrs Teyise trained the choir and helped with the acting skills development, and the rest of the school staff helped with stage management. The first level of the school cloister was transformed into a stage (complete with Basil Mills' army net and his spotlight). The audience enjoyed the play and the children loved the whole process. Drama is a wonderful teaching tool with all the children benefitting from it.
